Best Western Hotels & Resorts is a leading, global hospitality network comprised of three hotel companies, including WorldHotels® Collection, Best Western® Hotels & Resorts and SureStay Hotel Group®.

The Director of Internal Audit is responsible for developing and managing a strategic global internal audit plan. This leadership position administratively reports to the Chief Financial Officer and functionally to the Board of Directors.

Essential Job Results

  • Develop and manage a strategic global internal audit plan that adds value and provides an insightful measuring stick for our Executive Team and Board of Directors.
  • Develop and manage a strong relationship with our co-sourced internal audit provider.
  • Execute the internal audit plan on time and within budget.
  • Manage internal audit engagements resources to ensure plan execution, including, develop individual audit plans, allocate resources to achieve audit steps, utilize and develop team strengths in the execution of audit steps, document audit findings according to work paper standards, and present final report for management and Audit Committee consideration
  • Manage relationships with colleagues and external partners to ensure all points of view are considered and sound findings are derived
  • Evaluate internal controls and offer recommendations to improve performance
  • Perform the annual Entity Level Risk Assessment
  • Be proactive to ensure that effective internal controls are developed as new processes and systems are developed, or existing ones changed
  • Monitor and follow up on recommendations to ensure corrective actions are implemented timely and that root causes are remediated
  • Assist in managing the co-sourcing partner’s engagement economics
  • Support Accounting & Finance projects as needed

Experience

  • 10+ years leadership experience in accounting, finance, and/or internal audit with financial audit experience.
  • Experience in both major public accounting firm and private industry.
  • Must have financial reporting experience.
  • May also require external/internal audit experience.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • MBA/CPA preferred.
  • CIA/CISA/CFE certifications a plus

Skills

  • Must possess expert auditing skills with experience in internal or external audit, and compliance with various acts and accounting standards
  • Expert in technology controls and data flows
  • Knowledge of the requirements of the Generally Accepted Accounting Standards and other applicable standards
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Persuasive communication skills, written and verbal
  • Strong cross-functional management skills
  • Strong technical and analytical skills
  • Ability to provide tactical direction on new processes, practices or goals.
  • Experience with attracting, retaining, motivating and developing staff.

Other Requirements

  • This Director position will be based out of our Corporate Headquarters location in Phoenix, AZ with a hybrid in-office/work at home schedule.
  • May travel up to 10% of work time.
