For the accounting professional with a desire to be part of an organization where your work does not go unnoticed, come join us at Best Western Hotels & Resorts.  The role of Senior Accountant/Analyst, which reports directly to the Division Controller, and works closely with management of the business unit, will allow you to leverage your proven accounting and analysis experience as you respond to management requests for specific financial and general business information and evaluations.  You will be working in one of the most interesting positions at Best Western Hotels & Resorts where you will have a direct impact on the company's operating efficiency.

As our Senior Accountant/Analyst based in our corporate offices in Phoenix, Arizona, your mission will be to provide financial support, close, reporting, planning and analytics for multiple marketing departments. Your attention to detail and ability to deliver results will be invaluable in this fast-paced, energetic and highly visible role.  Strong analytical skills coupled with an innate ability to interact with people at all levels within the organization will be essential in this role as you partner with the business while digging into details and drawing correlations to prepare and distribute reports to the entities that require them to make critical business decisions. Job Requirements

  • Focuses mainly on all aspects of the Best Western Travel Card department
  • Communicates regularly and supports managers in business units and departments while maintaining a thorough understanding of departments 
  • Responds to management requests for specific financial and general business information and evaluations in a timely manner
  • Completes the monthly financial closing process in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepares monthly journal entries, account reconciliations and research on financial questions, with analysis of budget/forecast-to-actual fluctuations to explain variances and ensure accuracy of financial results
  • Completes forecasting and annual budgeting process in the given timeframe
  • Identifies and interprets trends by analyzing data and bringing issues and resolutions to management’s attention
  • Adheres to financial reporting deadlines, policies, procedures and internal controls
  • Supports financial decision making by effectively using financial data analytics, cost accounting and financial modeling to determine possible revenue opportunities, savings, cost avoidance, and cost/value of services
  • Uses advanced Excel skills to aggregate large data sets for both financial reporting and analytical purposes
  • Identifies and/or implements improvements to processes, reporting and internal controls
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with accuracy
  • Ad hoc reporting/projects as needed

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 5 years of accounting and finance experience
  • Experience with public company requirements (quarterly reports as well as SOX compliance is a plus)

Licenses and/or Certifications:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred


  • Intermediate-advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; including advanced Excel skills
  • Intermediate-advanced proficiency in financial modeling and query and report writing tools that accompany financial software packages
  • Self-driven with the ability to create critical paths that provide solutions to ongoing operational challenges
  • Financial budgeting, forecasting and modeling acumen with financial accountability
  • Strong organizational, problem solving, analytical, general ledger reconciliation and financial statement preparation skills
  • Experience with budgets and forecasts for multiple departments
  • Manage multiple projects and programs simultaneously
  • Demonstrates a desire for continuous improvement: resolves broadly defined problems by identifying root cause and provides creative solutions
