Job Description

Best Western Hotels & Resorts is a leading, global hospitality network comprised of three hotel companies, including WorldHotels® Collection, Best Western® Hotels & Resorts and SureStay Hotel Group®.

The Sr. Accountant will be responsible for accomplishing day-to-day accounting results by conducting complex and varied accounting activities for our international operations including the following areas:  general ledger accounting, cash management, payables and receivables. Additional essential job results include:

  • Preparing robust consolidated company and regional financial statement decks, to include:  monthly, quarterly forecasts, and annual budget.
  • Working with BW executive team and other operational associates to provide detailed variance analysis reports, with commentary.
  • Preparing high level summary document / email of significant variances for executive consideration.
  • Significant communications with international associates requiring flexibility to coordinate with associates in various time zones.
  • Processing and recording bank deposits, credit card payments, and reviewing/investigating payments and cash receipts in accounting system as required.
  • WH Americas region Accounts Receivable including invoicing, statements, collection letters and payment plans.
  • WH Americas Accounts Payable including receipt, review, and coding of vendor invoices and submission to AP for payment processing.
  • Preparing and recording monthly closing journals in accounting system (SAP).
  • Reviewing GL, AP, and AR entries in accounting system and perform reconciliations.

Experience

  • 4+ years related accounting experience.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.

Skills

  • Demonstrated experience performing and understanding inter-company and foreign exchange transactions.
  • Demonstrated strong knowledge and skills in GAAP, accounting practices, and concepts. Knowledge of IFRS and transfer pricing accounting practices is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with advanced proficiency in Excel. SAP experience a plus.
  • Advanced ability to write reports and queries and demonstrate proficiency using automated accounting system.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with operational as well as accounting team to provide thoughtful analysis and projection of financial results.
  • Detail oriented with excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Exerts a positive impact on costs, revenue and financial commitments through proper accounting, analysis and interpretation.

Work Location/Schedule

  • Our Accounting division is based at our Phoenix Headquarters. This position has a hybrid 3 days WFH/ 2 days in-office work schedule.
